Pondicherry or Puducherry is perfect weekend destination from Chennai or Bangalore in India.

This city has own historical importance. It was initially Dutch and later french colony till Indian independence. Sri Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville also point of interest for the people who seek spiritual guidance.

How to reach Pondicherry

There are direct flights from Bangalore and Hyderabad international airport. From other places, you will get connecting flight.

There are direct trains from Chennai to Pondicherry. There are more trains depart from Chennai egmore station compare to Chennai Central. Also from Bangalore to Pondicherry direct train is there but not all the days.

Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad are well connected to Pondicherry by road. Volvo and normal buses, private cabs are easily available.

We traveled by train from Chennai Egmore station to Pondicherry. We didn't book tickets before. But it is better to book the tickets before you travel by train.

Hotels in Pondicherry

There are different types of staying options in Pondicherry from budget hotels to beach resorts. There are hotels in Pondicherry near the beach, hotels near bus stand or near rock beach. It is advisable to book before you go.

We didn't book but was able to find a decent hotel. We stayed in the clock tower hotel. It was near to rock beach.

Best places to see in Pondicherry

1. People with spiritual interest must visit Sri Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville matrimandir.


2. Promenade and the black rocky beach


3. Pondicherry paradise beach.


4. Pondicherry Museum.


5. The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

7. French war memorial


8. Botanical garden


9. Pondicherry park.

Apart from the above-mentioned places also many places you will find to visit. You can hire a bicycle or scooter to roam around and explore at your own. It is a safe place to roam.

Best time to visit Pondicherry

December to February, during winter, it is the best time to visit Pondicherry (temperature between 31degree to 21degree). In summer climate will be hot as temperature may reach up to 37degree.
