Day-1
Last week of November brought us the perfect opportunity to embark on a road trip to Ghatshila, a small town nestled in the eastern part of India. With its pleasant weather and promises of natural beauty, we eagerly set off on our adventure. The journey by car was smooth, and we arrived at our destination around 12:30 PM, feeling excited about the experiences that awaited us.
To ensure a comfortable stay, we had made prior arrangements at the Ramkrishna Mission, which is conveniently located near the Ghatshila railway station. The serene ambiance of the mission provided a tranquil atmosphere, allowing us to unwind and relax. We were delighted to find that the lunch served was exceptional, with a delectable spread that satisfied our taste buds.
After a satisfying meal, we decided to embark on our sightseeing expedition around 2 PM. The sun was shining brightly, but it didn't dampen our spirits. Our first stop was the Galudih Dam, an impressive structure that forms a part of the Subarnarekha Multipurpose Project. This joint venture between the states of Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha diverts water into canals on both sides of the river. As we marveled at the engineering marvel, we couldn't help but appreciate the beauty of the surrounding.
Next on our itinerary was the Sidheshwar Temple, situated atop a small hill. While the temple offered a serene and spiritual atmosphere, reaching it required a bit of trekking. This might pose a challenge for older individuals and young children, but the effort was undoubtedly worth it for the breathtaking views and peaceful ambiance that awaited us.
Jadugoda Rankini Temple was our next destination. Situated in Rohinibera village, this temple holds immense significance in local folklore. It is believed that Goddess Rankini, an incarnation of Goddess Kali, resides in a stone within the temple premises. The temple's history is intriguing, with stories of divine dreams and worship, adding to its mystique. The spiritual energy enveloping the temple made our visit a truly memorable experience.
As the sun began to set, we returned to the Ramkrishna Mission to participate in the peaceful evening prayer. The tranquil environment and devotional chants created a sense of inner calm and rejuvenation.
Day-2
The following morning, we embarked on another exciting day of exploration. After a delightful breakfast, we set off for the Burudi Dam. Located amidst the scenic Dalma Hills, this dam was a testament to the architectural prowess of the British Raj. The journey to the dam was a visual treat in itself, with picturesque village roads and stunning natural beauty along the way. Though Giridhara Falls was closed during our visit, we made the most of our time at Burudi Dam, soaking in the serenity and enjoying the surroundings.
Our next stop was Fuldungri Pahar, a small hill located in the northern fringe of Ghatshila town. From the peak of Fuldungri, we were treated to a panoramic view of rolling hills and lush green valleys. The relatively easy climb made it accessible for everyone, and the beauty that unfolded before our eyes was truly mesmerizing.
Being avid readers, we couldn't resist visiting the house of renowned Bengali writer Bhibhuti Bhushan Bandopadhyay, which was conveniently situated next to the Ramkrishna Mission. Exploring the home of a literary genius gave us a glimpse into his world and deepened our appreciation for his literary contributions.
After that we returned to mission. After a sumptuous lunch at the mission, we decided to take a break and rest, considering we were traveling with a senior citizen and a young child. In the evening, we made our way to Ratmohona, a picturesque hill known for offering the best views of sunsets in Ghatshila. Following a trail along the river bank, we reached the top of Ratmohona and were rewarded with a breathtaking sunset. The path leading to the hill, adorned with trees, added to the enchanting experience.
Our journey wouldn't have been complete without visiting the Ghatshila Rankini Temple. Located within the town, this temple holds both archaeological and religious significance. Amidst the natural beauty that surrounds the temple, we found solace and spirituality.
We wrapped up our day by immersing ourselves in the serene atmosphere of the Ramkrishna Mission, cherishing the peaceful ambiance and reflecting on the beautiful moments we had experienced.
Day-3
The next morning, after a fulfilling breakfast, it was time to bid adieu to Ghatshila. But before we headed back to Kolkata, we couldn't resist a final detour to the Kanakdurga Temple near Jhargram. This ancient temple, estimated to be over 500 years old, was built by King Gopinath and dedicated to Goddess Kanak Durga. The idol of the goddess, made entirely of gold, is a sight to behold. The temple's location, nestled in a forest by the Dulung River, added to the allure. As we explored the temple and its surroundings, we were treated to glimpses of rare tree species, birds, and playful monkeys, making it a truly enchanting experience.
Our visit to Ghatshila and its surroundings left an indelible mark on our hearts. The natural beauty, cultural heritage, and spiritual essence of the region combined to create an unforgettable journey. We returned home with cherished memories, a deeper connection to nature, and a renewed sense of peace.
